All hospitals and skilled nursing facilities must have an antimicrobial stewardship program (ASP) as a requirement for accreditation by The Joint Commission (MM.09.01.0), since January 2017. Additionally, several states have also enacted legislation that addresses the crucial need for clinical antimicrobial stewardship policies and procedures.
