Hepatology
Hepatology is the branch of medicine focused on the study, diagnosis, and treatment of liver, gallbladder, biliary tree, and pancreas. The liver plays a crucial role in detoxifying the body, producing bile for digestion, and managing energy and nutrient storage. When liver function is disrupted, it can lead to a wide range of health issues — some mild and reversible, while others can be serious and life-threatening.
Liver diseases may develop due to viral infections (such as hepatitis A, B, or C), excessive alcohol use, fat buildup in the liver (fatty liver disease), autoimmune conditions, genetic disorders, or medication-related toxicity. Common symptoms of liver disorders include fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, abdominal pain or swelling, yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice), dark urine, and unexplained weight loss. In some cases, liver disease can remain silent until it reaches an advanced stage, making early detection and routine monitoring especially important.
A hepatologist is a physician who specializes in diagnosing and managing liver-related diseases and conditions. They have advanced expertise in understanding liver function, metabolism, and the complex interplay between the liver and other organs. Hepatologists treat patients with conditions such as hepatitis, fatty liver disease (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic), cirrhosis, liver cancer, and inherited liver disorders.
They work closely with gastroenterologists and other specialists to provide comprehensive care, often utilizing imaging studies, liver function tests, and sometimes biopsies to assess liver health. Hepatologists also guide patients on lifestyle and medication management to prevent further liver damage and, in severe cases, coordinate liver transplant evaluations.

The prescriptions are sent electronically to the pharmacy of your choice.
We currently do not prescribe certain controlled substances like narcotics or benzodiazepines.
